Now in the past couple of weeks I have gotten letters from both Marlen and Predilien.
Predilien is 13 and lives in Haiti. He writes:
Predilien is very glad God has given him the chance to greet you in the Almighty Lord's name. How are you and your family? He is doing well with God. He spent a good vacation and played much soccer. (I assume this was summer break.) Thanks for always praying for him. He always prays for you. Pray to God for him to be given more knowledge in all he understands. May God bless you in all you do. Thanks.
This short note was written by Predilien's sister on his behalf. He has been my correspondent child for about a year and a half now but has never written on his own. Before he was assigned to me Predilien had been in the program for 7 years with 2 sponsors and only received 2 letters. I assume part of the reason he doesn't communicate with me on his own is because he doesn't want to be hurt again. So I keep writing faithfully and hoping to break through while cherishing any little note I get from his family.
Sweet Marlen in 10 and lives in El Salvador. She is a writer for sure and filled up every one of the lines on the letter plus drew a precious picture. She says:
Hello dear sponsor Emily, In this opportunity I want to write you about what I do in a normal day in my life. I wake up early in the morning. I get ready to go to the child development center. There I help to clean before I go to classes. Then we have our devotional, we make dynamics (not sure what that is), and we share the snack. During classes I like to give my opinion on the theme and work in a group. When we finish I go to my house to get ready for school. In school I receive 5 subjects every day. I most like social studies because I can learn about my country and other countries. (In May she said her favorite was science. But as a history major, I gotta love a girl interested in the humanities!) During recess I play with my friends. When we get out from school, my mom comes to pick me up and I tell her how school was. When I arrive at my house I rest a while and help my mom with the house chores. Then I do my homework and we have dinner. I get ready to sleep. I dress in my pajamas you gave me. (I have her a nightgown when I was there.) I thank God for one more day of life and I sleep. (So sweet!) What do you do in your country for independence day? (I assume this was written around El Salvador's independence day in September.) I want to ask if you can pray for my studies that I can successfully pass the school year with good grades. (I was told she makes excellent grades so please join me in praying she'll keep it up.) Also I want to thank you for the photo album you sent me. (Of pictures from our day together.) Thanks to be so special with me. I wish big blessings God can keep you every day. ~Marlen
In the computer class I learned the tool bar in Word.
I just adore this sweet girl and relish every letter I get. She is so loving and a wonderful writer, making sure she fit as much as she possibly could. Her picture is of 2 little girls playing with a doll between 2 houses- very cute as usual!
I love these kids so much and feel blessed to have them in my life. I will be writing replies tonight, plus a quick note to Rhean as well. If you sponsor kids, please take the time to write to them this weekend. Your words are so important to them!
